SoGEA - In Depth

image.png

A great analogy for anyone who is non technical:

Think of a SoGEA line like a water pipe that only delivers water, not gas anymore - In the old days, a broadband line was like a shared pipe carrying both water (internet) and gas (phone calls). You had to have both, even if you only wanted water — the gas part just came along for the ride.

SoGEA is like replacing that with a dedicated water pipe that only brings you water. No phone line service is bundled in, but you still get the same flow and pressure. The pipe is simpler, cheaper to maintain, and you can choose your own gas supply (phone service) separately if you want it — or skip it entirely.

A SoGEA connection uses standard part-fibre technology. Fibre optic cables send signals to your street cabinet, then copper cables carry the signal to your home but there’s no need for a landline. Instead, the connection just plugs into your master socket.

Who needs SoGEA?

This line is suggested when a client/potential clients needs to be upgraded to fibre, but unfortunately the full connectivity is unavailable in thier area.

  • Businesses that are unable to have a full fibre connection yet.
  • Businesses not reliant on heavy data useage.
  • Business that use less services such as Office/ Nextcloud etc.
  • Use of online services such as Office/ Nextcloud etc
  • Businesses that have a small amount of staff online at any one time
Plus Points for Sales:

Partial Fibre connection means much better connectivity and speeds than existing ADSL lines that are due to be discontinued in 2027.

once Full fibre is installing in area - this line may be upgraded.

Con Points to be Aware of:

SoGEA Broadband, while capable of delivering satisfactory speeds, may not match the bandwidth of Full Fibre. The limitations of copper cables may result in reduced speeds, especially over longer distances.

Limited availability in areas

SLAs are low prioirity should an SoGEA line have a fault vs priority Leased lines.
